Understanding Article 370: Its Significance, Abrogation, and Impact on Jammu and Kashmir
Article 370 was a provision in the Indian Constitution that granted Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) a special status within the Indian Union. The article was added to the Constitution in 1949, shortly after India gained independence, and it gave the state considerable autonomy. The provision allowed the state to have its own constitution, a separate flag, and autonomy over most matters except for defense, foreign affairs, finance, and communications.
