Target of 10,000 GI tags by 2030
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has set a target of providing 10,000 Geographical Indication (GI) tags by 2030.
Currently 605 GI tags have been granted in India. The minister aims to increase this to 10,000. A special committee will be formed to monitor the progress of this initiative. The number of authorized GI product users has increased from 365 to 29,000.
